Managing Cases

A case in LawRep ties together a client, the assigned staff, the relevant law categories and jurisdictions, and all the artifacts (notes, files, invoices, meetings) generated while you work it.

Create a case

Cases → New Case. Required fields:

  • Client — must be a workspace client (create one first if needed)
  • Title and case number — case number can be your firm's internal numbering scheme
  • Status — Open / Pending / Closed
  • Law categories — used for the public profile and reporting
  • Jurisdictions — court(s) the matter is filed in

Optional but recommended: assign one or more staff so the case appears in their dashboard.

Track work

Inside the case detail page:

  • Notes — internal vs. shared. Shared notes are visible to the client; internal notes stay inside the firm.
  • Files — upload documents and share specific ones with the client.
  • Meetings — every meeting linked to the case appears here in chronological order.
  • Invoices — link an invoice to the case so time/expense entries roll up correctly.

Close a case

Set the status to Closed. The case is read-only afterwards, but everything stays searchable. To re-open, change the status back to Open.

Plan limits

Each plan caps the number of active cases per workspace. The Cases page header shows your usage (e.g. "5/100 active"). Closed cases do not count toward the limit.
